Ticks and Lice in Dogs

Ticks are common parasites that can be found anywhere, from the deep woods to urban parks. And each year, thousands of dogs become infected with serious diseases transmitted by a number of different ticks. Diseases like ehrlichiosis, Lyme diseaseanaplasmosis, and others.

Generally known as vector-borne disease, the risks they pose to your dog can be minimized with preventive measures(topical medications, tick collars, etc.) and annual checkups include vector-borne disease screening. This is especially important, as symptoms of the vector-borne disease are often vague and difficult to recognize. Because of this, many pet owners don’t know their dog is suffering from a debilitating tick disease until it’s too late.

Ticks Can Be Found Anywhere

It starts with your dog scratching the ear, or bites the tail. With time passing this behavior intensifies , and your dog could be traumatizing his or her ears by scratching with sharp nails. You could mistakenly think that it might be either an allergy, a shampoo you recently use, or something else. But could you ever guess that it might be a tick?  They are hard to spot, and I can tell you from my professional experience it is very tricky even for a trained eye.  But we know how to find them, and in fact, every appointment with the mobile pet spa gets your dog checked for ticks and fleas.

But, let’s continue…Soon those scratchy -itchy spots on your dog’s body are becoming bloody drainy wounds, that get infected and growing in size. The ear canal itself becomes swollen, red and has a horrible odor. This can lead to a lyme disease and ear scabies. Having a tick in the ear could lead to a tragic consequences like :hearing loss, systematic  infection, and meningitis

Advantix, frontline and other remedies do work, but a tick must be removed first. If its not to deep our service can remove it. If a tick got too far down your pet’s body a surgical incision might be necessary. We use tweezers to remove ticks, your local vet might use a different method, depending on a severity of the situation.

If you do it yourself here is a tip:

Keep an eye on the area where the tick  Wash your hands, clean your pet’s wound with antiseptic and make sure to clean your tweezers with isopropyl alcohol. If the skin remains irritated or infected, make an appointment with your veterinarian.

Ear cleaning is a routing and a necessary procedure that must be performed regularly We use a clean thin cloth or a cue tip dipped into peroxide and carefully go around the ear canal to clean the debris. It might take several attempts, but make sure not to apply extra pressure, so not to cause any damage to the eardrum. Why don’t you call us instead? We know how to do it. Mobile Pet Spa has the experience and the  knowledge to deal with these problems.

Ticks Live in Shady Moist Grass

…..and can jump onto your dog so fast that you won’t even notice it. Neck, under the armpits, the backside of the tail are favorite spots for ticks. They swirl into the body, break the skin layer and suck blood.  You can do yourself and your dog a big favor by examine your pet after a long walks in a park, woods, or a run in your backyard. Highly recommended, I cannot emphasize it enough.

You will save yourself from a headache a trip to your vet. Many of you still won’t do it, but, fortunately, our service can help pet owners with tips and information about the vector-borne disease and how to keep dogs safe. Because when you know more about the risk, you can help keep your best friend happy, healthy and tick-free.

Call us,  we are good people we remove ticks.
